I Source for Trusted People to Help in Shipping – An Interview With Feyikemi Olasode

Olasode Feyikemi Oluwatoyin is a personal shopper under her business name, “May Randolf Collections”. As a personal shopper, and depending on your budget, Feyikemi makes it a point of duty to painstakingly go around several stores in the US, so as to get your order(s) at a cheaper rate, and still give you quality.

However, the United States is not the only place they help clients buy and ship items from. “May Randolf Collection,” located in the United States,  also helps you buy and ship items from Nigeria and the UK to any part of the world. See more about the company, here.

So we caught up with the boss lady, Olasode Feyikemi Oluwatoyin, and below is our chat.

Pelleura: Hi Feyikemi, Its really nice to have this chat with you.
Feyikemi: Same here.

Pelleura: Please can you share details of your background with us?
Feyikemi: Well, I grew up in a family of 4. We are all girls. My mum and eldest sister are late. So just got three of us plus my dad. I am the last born. Not born with any spoon talk less of silver. But my parents tried to give us the little they could afford and made sure education is the most important.

Pelleura: Oh! I’m sorry you lost your mom and sister.

Feyikemi: It’s ok. Thanks.

Pelleura: So what were your dreams like when you were in school?
Feyikemi: I just wanted to be a rich entrepreneur. Lol. At first, I wanted to be a doctor because my dad wanted that. But it wasn’t my calling and I prayed to God not to allow me to be one if I would regret it later. Prayer got answered. I studied agricultural economics and even with that, I knew I would focus more on my minor than the major course.

Pelleura: Are you full time into business? Or do you have a day job you run?
Feyikemi: For now, I have a day job. You know how it is in the states. You have to be so rich for you not to have a day job.

Pelleura: Please tell us more about your business
Feyikemi: The idea of May Randolf started way back in 2012. And that is why we have the collections. One part of May Randolf is being a personal shopper. I saw a need and I decided to go into solving that need. We have a lot of Nigerians who shop from both the US and the UK for personal use or to fill up their stores. Most times these people don’t have trusted hands or their people are not patient enough or they don’t even know how to ship these items at a reduced cost. Solving these problems is why I started May Randolf.

Pelleura: How do you handle shipping to different locations?
Feyikemi: I have two ways; if you are buying a few items, I source for trusted people going back to Nigeria to take with them at no cost to the buyer. Or we ship with our shipping company here in the US. And between 5-10 days it is with you in Nigeria. This second option comes at a cost.

Pelleura: Are there countries you don’t deliver to?
Feyikemi: For now we have not encountered any country we cannot deliver to. We deliver worldwide so far your country is on the map.

Pelleura: Are there Items you don’t ship?
Feyikemi: we don’t ship contrabands. We don’t ship items that are not in line with the countries policies. So before we deal with you, we will first Check items that cannot be accepted in your country.

Pelleura: What inspired you to start this business?
Feyikemi: I have always loved business but it was when I got to the states that I started this part of May Randolf business. Majorly I started it because friends and families keep asking me to assist with purchases and I felt if my immediate family has this need, I guess more people out there would too.

Pelleura: What are the obstacles you’ve faced and how were you able to overcome them?
Feyikemi: Trust issue. Most Nigerians don’t trust that we would deliver to them. For this, it’s an ongoing thing. We have to keep creating awareness. Also, many people are not yet used to the type of service we render. We have to keep creating awareness and explaining our services.

Pelleura: In a country like ours, do you think the government has put in place structures that help your kind of business survive, especially as you send items down to clients in Nigeria.
Feyikemi: truth is our country is not yet there. We have to follow up with packages each step of the way. Unlike when an item is coming from Nigeria to the US. But I believe in the system. We will get there.

Pelleura: What are those achievements you aim to make with May Randolf, and what future goals are
you aiming for?
Feyikemi: I want to have a brand that people can relate to. People back home can have confidence in. And where they know they will get the best service humanly possible to get. Also, I want a brand where Nigerians can be assured of original products. I want to be the number one personal shopper with excellent customer service. That is my goal. Never leave a customer dissatisfied.

Pelleura: Do you have your own self-hosted platform where readers can reach you? Like a website or
blog?
Feyikemi: no not yet. But I am working on it.

Pelleura: If you were to do it all over again, would you choose to start and grow a business, or would
you rather stick to paid employment?
Feyikemi: I would do business all over again.

Pelleura: What advice do you have for other small business owners?
Feyikemi: persistence and having excellent customer service.

Pelleura: Thanks so, so much for your time.
Feyikemi: Thank you for having me.
