Baby On a Mission (Chapter One) – Throw Back Thursday

Baby Nicholas lay face-up; giggling happily at his father’s funny faces. He had finished swallowing the last spoon of custard his father fed him and was relaxing peacefully in his cot when his father, Barrister Andrew Ajeja, came in to play with him.

Nicholas missed his mother, but even as little as he was, he knew that he was lucky to have a father who cared so much for him. His father was a dark-skinned man, chocolate brown to be precise.

He wore a neat low cut over well-trimmed beards. His light brown eyes were full of life, his full lips smiled graciously at the little toddler in the cot. He didn’t have the body of a model, but he was proud of his flat tummy and full chest.

“Alright kiddo” He said as he turned and went about arranging his documents into his briefcase. “I seriously need to get to the office. I can’t bring you along so, I have made arrangements for someone special to look after you while I’m away. She is nice. I’m sure you will love h…”

The doorbell rang that moment, cutting him short.

“Okay, that must be her.” He said.

He left Nicholas’ room to answer the door. He returned a few minutes later with a fair skinned lady, obviously in her late twenties. She looked so much like a model cut from a magazine; slim, tall. Her braids hung freely over well-shaped shoulders. She looked really gorgeous in a red, knee level gown that hugged her body. Her eyes were dark brown, her nose, a little wide and her lips, full.

“Kiddo, meet Erica.” Barrister Andrew said. ” She is the one I was just telling you about. She will take special care of you while I am away, but please, you have to be good to her. No prank okay?”

“Errrrr, hrrrr tatatatato.” Little Nicholas replied. He knew he had not gotten to the stage where he would talk and so there was just no need forcing it. However, his father took his baby blabbing as a ‘Yes daddy, I will be a good boy’ talk and gave him a thank you peck on his cheeks.

But truly, Nicholas was making it very clear that he can’t promise not to be mischievous. At that moment, he was thankful that his father didn’t understand what he said. Maybe he would have gotten a spank or a frown in place of the peck.

Wow! What a wonderful world we babies live in. He thought. You say what you like and still get a peck for it.

He was still thinking about just how wonderful his world was when he noticed his father kissing his female friend on her lips as a way of making out and at the same time saying thank you for coming.

Nicholas didn’t like the scene in front of him. This was becoming a regular habit and he didn’t like it one bit. If he was not mistaken, Erica was the 10th woman his father had brought home to look after him and he kissed almost every one of those women just as he was joyfully kissing this one.

What do grown-ups enjoy in licking each other’s saliva? He thought.

“You definitely can’t understand that yet. It’s complicated.” A voice said from the window

Upon hearing the voice, Nicholas smiled. He knew that voice even in his sleep. He got excited as he turned in his cot to the open window. There his angel friend, Emil, stood with folded arms and a sincere smile. He stood a full 6ft tall. His white touched the floor. He had no wings but his skin sparked with life. It was not the normal type of earthly skin, this was more glorious. His white hair blended well with his dark skin.

Angel Emil was Nicholas’, Guardian Angel. He had a mission to fulfill with Nicholas. For that reason, he made it a point of duty to always be around, especially if Nicholas was going to be home alone with one of his father’s numerous girlfriends. Emil always made sure that no harm ever came to his little friend, no matter what.

Being a baby yet to speak, Nicholas and his angel friend communicated through thoughts. But sometimes, Emil spoke. No matter how loud he spoke, no one else heard him, except he wanted the people around to.

“I’m glad you are here!” Nicholas greeted him with excitement. “If my father knew I already have a babysitter, he wouldn’t bother with these terrible women.”

“No he wouldn’t” Emil replied. “But talking about women, what are you going to do to stop the inappropriate touching?” Emil asked, still smiling.

Nicholas’ eyes followed Emil’s gaze to where his father and Erica stood, happily kissing away and almost tearing at each other all in the name of passion. Nicholas was highly disgusted.

Without a moment’s delay, he burst into serious tear as he peed on himself. Startled by the sudden change in mood and comfort, Andrew and Erica quickly put aside their escapades and moved to attend to him. Even with that, his crying only increased.

Angel Emil watched the drama before him with amusement. It was not the first time Nicholas was using his cry and pee trick to pull his father away from the arms of “these terrible women” as he called them.

Andrew carried Nicholas and began to rock him. Erica made an attempt to take Nicholas from him but Andrew refused. He knew his son’s cries would definitely increase in the arms of another.

“Andrew,” She complained. “I am going to babysit him for the next eight hours, you have to let him start getting used to me.”

“I know darling, it’s just that…”

“It’s nothing, Andrew. I’m here, so let me do what I came here to do.”

Andrew saw reasons with her. He let her carry Nicholas. In protest, Nicholas’ cries increased even more. His father wanted to take him back but Erica refused.

“He will get used to me, dear” She assured him. “You have to be on your way now or you will be late for work.”

“Okay baby.” Andrew agreed as he pecked her cheeks. “Thanks a lot, you are a lifesaver.”

Before he left the house, Andrew showed Erica where Nicholas’ food was as well as his clothes and diaper, in case she needed to change him into something clean whenever he passed out faeces or peed.

After all was done, Barrister Andrew picked up his suit jacket and briefcase, pecked both Erica and Nicholas on their cheeks before going out the door. Now left alone with his babysitter, Nicholas began to mentally map out what pranks he could play on her.

As long as he was concerned, this was the first and last time he ever wanted to see her with his father. The other women who had come in the past left and promised never to come back again.

He wanted same for Erica. As little as he was, Nicholas knew he needed to think and crying wasn’t going to help out with that, so, he stopped crying and tried to focus.

“That’s my baby,” Erica said after he became quiet. “Now that you are willing to get used to me, let me clean you up and wrap you in a clean diaper. After that, we will get to know each other properly.”

“Properly my foot!” Nicholas yelled. “Blah ahh kkhh” was all Erica heard.

She took him back to his playroom where Emil was waiting. He was surprised to see Nicholas was quiet.

“What?’ He asked, brows raised. “You’re tired of crying?”

“No” Nicholas replied. “I need to think and frankly, I need your help in this matter.”

Erica, completely unaware of Emil’s presence and his conversation with the baby, went about her duty. She carefully placed him on the table and began to change his soaked diaper.

“This is so unfair,” Nicholas said in protest, as Erica started to clean him up.

“What is?” Emil asked.

“Must every woman see my nakedness? All in the name of babysitting?”

“Yes,” Emil replied with a grin. “After all, you are still a baby.”

“Well, whatever. But I want her gone for good” Nicholas insisted.

“She is a nice lady, Nick. Why not for once be nice too?”

“That’s not possible, Emil.”

“Oh come on. You are the Angel, Emil. You are the one who told me I have to make sure none of these women sit well with my father and that I must keep the road clear for my mother from my other life. Now how would I do that if I’m nice? This one seems nice, yes, but she is not my former mother.”

“Okay, I get your point,” Emil said in defeat. “So, have you come up with a plan yet?”

“I’m still working on it. Eight hours is a long time you know?”

“Yes, I know.”

Chapter Two

Barrister Andrew got to his chambers, Andrew Ajeja Law Chambers, far later than he had hoped to. In addition to the heavy traffic along the road, he was cornered by some armed men who claimed to be from Global Reach – a company dealing in scientific discoveries and modern technologies. The men, all dressed in black suit, claimed their boss had a case and since they knew Andrew to be a very sound and effective lawyer, they wanted him to handle it.

“Why not come to the office and book an appointment? Then we can discuss.” Andrew queried when he didn’t really know who they were.

“Look, Barrister, we have no time for that.” One of the men said as he slightly pulled out a short gun, just enough for Andrew to see before sliding it back into his pocket. “By one o, clock this afternoon,” the man continued, “Be at Global Reach. My boss will be expecting you. If you don’t show up, kiss your son and your chambers goodbye, because I know those are the two most important things in your life right now.”

“Okay, okay! I hear you.” Andrew raised his hands in acceptance. “By one o, clock this afternoon, I will be there. Just leave my son and my chambers out of this.”

“Good!” Their leader said. “Have a great day Barrister. And see you soon.”

They left him just as quietly as they had sneaked up on him and for a moment, he wondered if they had really been there.

When he got into his chambers late that morning, his personal secretary, Jennifer Esighe – a young lady in her early twenties, fair skinned and about 5ft tall, was there to greet him and bring him up to speed about the latest development for one of the cases he was handling.

“Thank you, Jennifer.” Was all he could say after she finished talking. His mind was still disturbed by the morning’s event.

Jennifer wanted to ask what was wrong. She knew her boss was a lively man but what she saw at that moment, was the opposite. She decided that whatever the problem was, she would give him a little space to calm down and then talk to him later.

“If there is anything else I can do, just let me know.” She said before leaving his private office and going back to her desk.

Jennifer Esighe was a single lady who got pregnant sometime back. Although her then-boyfriend abandoned her and the baby, she was determined to not abort the child. It took so much strength and determination to keep the pregnancy and when it was time, she gave birth to a bouncing baby girl. The girl child was all she had and having her brought change to Jennifer’s life.

Running away from home at a tender age because of an abusive father and a mother who couldn’t care less made her grow up in the streets. She slept with men for money or food, took drugs and even sold some. It was during this period that she met Gbenga, a tout who was also taking and selling drugs.

He pretended to love Jennifer but when she took in for him, he denied her and the pregnancy.

Jennifer’s world almost caved in but some nuns picked her up from the street and took her in. After she had given birth, they rented and furnished a small apartment for her and in addition, they gave her a job at the convent. It was more than Jennifer could ask for and she was totally grateful.

However, things took a different turn for Jennifer when her baby girl who she named Ella, fell seriously ill and died a year later. Jennifer grieved for her baby girl. She did not know what she would do without her.

A year with the child had helped her amend her lifestyle and gave her a more positive outlook on life. So after the child was gone, she felt empty and had no wish to live. She stopped going to the convent but instead went about getting into trouble again, doing drugs and a lot of other bad things.

At one time, she shoplifted but got caught. When taken to face the Judge in a courtroom, there was no one to defend her.

It was during this time she came in contact with Barrister Andrew Ajeja. He happened to be in the court premises when her case was being heard. Seeing that she had no attorney, he volunteered his services.

Seeing that her case was indeed serious, he promised the judge that if he let her go, of course, she will still pay in cash for the stolen goods but on his own part, he would do everything possible to keep her away from the streets and away from trouble.

Knowing the kind of man Andrew was; A man of good will who always kept his promises, the judge accepted his plea and let Jennifer off the hook. Jennifer was completely touched that a man who knew absolutely nothing about her could help her. She decided to truly change for the better and finally, say goodbye to the memory of her dead child even though it was not easy.

As part of his scheme to help her, Andrew hired her as his personal office assistant and paid her handsomely. At first, Andrew’s late wife, Esther, was not comfortable with the development but after a long period of watching Jennifer and seeing that she could really be trusted, she let the issue go and took Jennifer as a sister.

During this period Esther conceived and when she was due, she gave birth to Nicholas. Unfortunately, she did not survive the traumas of labor. Nicholas became half-orphaned at an early age and since then, things had been a little rough for Andrew.

Jennifer wanted to help in whatever way she could, but she always seemed to meet a brick wall. She didn’t know how to get across to her boss. She didn’t know how to let him know she was there for him.

Bringing her mind back to the present, she sighed, before trying to get back to work. Unfortunately, the worried face of Andrew constantly occupied her mind and it was driving her nuts.

“I have to find a way to help him.” She said to herself at last. “I really have to find a way.”

Back at home, it was already 12 noon. Erica who thought Nicholas was fast asleep, went to the sitting room to watch TV. Nicholas, on the other hand, was wide awake and with Emil’s help, he was able to come up with a plan. Being an angel, Emil could read minds and one thing he kept reading in Erica’s mind was the fear of poo. “I pray this child doesn’t poo all over the place before his father gets back” She kept telling to herself. “I don’t think I can handle that.”

“So she hates the smell of baby poop?” Nicholas asked in amusement.

“Yes! But be careful Nick” Emil warned him. “Do not overdo it.”

“But that’s the whole idea.” Nicholas protested. “If I have mercy on her then she will definitely come back again.”

“At least have a little sympathy.”

“Okay Emil, after all, you’re the angel here.”

“Okay then. Time for action”

Nicholas chuckled innocently before bursting into a very loud cry. Erica was almost dozing off on the couch when she heard the cry. She quickly got up and ran Into Nicholas’ room.

“Oh, my dear. What’s wrong?” She asked as she carried Nicholas from his cot where she had placed him earlier. Nicholas cried uncontrollably. “Are you hungry?” Erica asked confused. She couldn’t think of anything else that would make him cry so loud. She took him to the kitchen and placed him on the center table before going about to prepare his custard. As soon as she was done, she tried feeding him but he kept coughing up the food on her body.

“Oh dear,” Erica said with a worried frown. “Now I will have to wash my gown.”

She looked at Nicholas and warned him to eat. Since he continued to cough up the food all over her body, Erica got angry and decided to close his nose. This way, Nicholas was forced to eat his food. This new development made him cry endlessly but none the less, he ate the rest of the food.

Emil couldn’t help laughing out loud at Nicholas’ situation. “The predator becomes the prey,” he said, chuckling. He knew Nicholas would be angry at him for not helping out but that didn’t bother him one bit.

By the time Erica was done with Nicholas, he was sweating all over and she decided to give him a cold bath.

She took him to the room and after getting his bath water ready, Erica removed his clothes and diaper. Nicholas chuckled heartily because he knew this was his moment.

After the diaper was removed, Nicholas raised his legs up and waited for Erica to return from where she went to keep the used diaper. As soon as she was within range and bent over him from the side where his legs were raised up, he did it.

He comfortably laid back and shot his poop to Erica’s face and neck. The smell filled her nose and the taste, her mouth.

Emil froze when he saw what his baby friend had done. He knew Nicholas would poo on her but he didn’t expect him to go this far. His breath caught as he watched Erica’s reaction.

“You bastard!!” She yelled after wiping out the faeces from her inside lips and nose. She ran to the bathroom to wash up. She removed her clothes and took her bath all over again as she used the toothpaste and her hand to wash her mouth clean. All these while, Emil seriously scolded Nicholas for behaving badly.

Even Nicholas started to feel sorry for his actions and he wished he could apologize.

After bathing, Erica wore one of Andrew’s shirt and short before washing her gown. When she was done, she walked back to where Nicholas laid and looked down at him, frowning.

“You see Nick,” She started. “I tried to play nice, but now, I will teach you a lesson. Come here.” Without so much as a second thought, she carelessly picked him from the bed and headed for the bathroom.

Nicholas turned to Emil for answers; he wanted to know what Erica was going to do to him. Emil didn’t answer his silent question, but the look on his face told Nicholas that Erica was really about to teach him the lesson of his life.
