5 Healthy Lifestyle Changes to Make Today and Why

Healthy lifestyle practices should not be neglected because they always come back to mock us when our body system starts to fail.

“Health is wealth” is one of the most health-wise popular quotes many of us know too well. However, many of us, especially youths and middle-age people, are lackadaisical about it until we become sick. And this shouldn’t be the case.

As a fulltime writer and blogger, I realize that when I neglect my self-care due to overworking, my health breaks down, and so does my physical appearance, it doesn’t matter if I bathe 3 times a day.

So below are five subtle healthy lifestyle changes that can make a whole lot of difference.

1. Eat Healthily:

Eat foods that will serve you better. Cut down on sugar intake. Incorporate more fruits and vegetables to your nutrition, and you will thank yourself in the coming years. Fruits and vegetables are so healthily awesome because you get dietary fibre, vitamin C, zinc, potassium, water, and a happy mouth. It is great that you can eat fruits as they come, and also have them in many different ways such as smoothies, drinks, and salad.

In addition to improving eyesight, lowering cholesterol and fighting heart diseases, they also help cleanse your blood, boost your immune system and keep you strong.

2. Take Creative Breaks:

Creative breaks, either long or short, improve productivity, mood, and cognition. It also reduces stress, increases focus, and lowers blood pressure.

Creative breaks can be simple walks down the road,  a quick meditation, a warm bath or listening to your favourite podcasts! In my own case, it is going out to tend to my garden. The few moments spent there boosts my creativity and give me ideas of new strategies, or ideas on how to improve old ones.

A study in a UK hospital reported faster recovery for patients who used meditation tapes before their open-heart surgery than those who did not.

3. Make Time for Romance:

Do you know that quality timeout with one’s partner can reduce stress and lower blood pressure? Even simple things like hugs, holding hands, smooching, and kisses, will help your body relax.

So, what are you waiting for? Take the cue and spend some quality time with your man.

4. Socialize:

It is no longer news that laughter makes the heart better, but do you know that you will get more laughter when you are with friends or in gatherings? A study by the ‘Lancet Commission on Dementia Prevention and Care,’ reports that increasing social activities and contact could reduce dementia incidence by 15 percent! So, if you want to limit the chance of having dementia in your old age, why don’t you start hooking up with family and friends more?

5. Visit your doctor:

This is the one I know many of us take for granted the most. We live by the quotes of what you don’t know won’t kill you. Hellooo! Not in these days. What you don’t know will kill you faster! So, if you haven’t been doing that, now is the best time to start. Paying a visit to the doctor regularly will help you nip ailments and deadly diseases on the board.

Overall, imbibe good habits and make your health a concern today. Take steps now to stop certain issues before they become major challenges. It is the small things that we sometimes do that makes a bigger impact on our lives. You never know what little adjustments you do now, that will benefit you in the future.
