My Singing Ministry Comes First – Interview With Gladys Efeni Adaji

Gladys Efeni Adaji

Gladys Efeni Adaji is not just another musician or another regular gospel artist. Her songs are not just for clapping and dancing. Instead, they provoke you to stop whatever you’re doing and really focus on God. She takes you from an unwilling into a very willing worship mood.

After listening several times to her new single, “Take Me Over”, I decided to bring her on board, to help you know more about this worship Angel, and where to get your copy of her new single.

See our interview below.

Pelleura: Welcome on board, ma. It’s nice to have this chat with you.
Gladys: Thank you

Pelleura: Please can you share details of your background with us?
Gladys: I am from Akpereh Olomu from Ughelli South of Delta State. I am born into a lovely family of twelve children where I occupied the sixth position. I had my primary and secondary school in the city of Warri in Delta State, Nigeria. I got my bachelor degree in Music from the Delta State University, did my Post-Graduate Diploma in Education from the National Teachers’ Institute Kaduna before acquiring my Masters in Voice Performance in Delta State University, Abraka.

Professionally, I am an elocutionist and an etiquette expert consulting for private enterprises in the educational sector. I am based in Port Harcourt with my husband and two lovely children.

Pelleura: What were your dreams like when you were in school?
Gladys: I have always had the dream of touching lives through my own unique kind of song ministrations, have a running event all through the year that is impacting lives and bringing many into the kingdom through my songs.

Pelleura: Are you full time into singing? Or do you have a day job or other businesses that you run?
Gladys: My singing ministry comes first in my life and that makes it full time to me. That does not stop the professional services I offer in my elocution and etiquette business.

Pelleura: Please tell us about your kind of songs.
Gladys: My style of music is primarily gospel jazz and rock with a touch of inter-cultural flair.

Pelleura: What prompted you to start singing?
Gladys: I started singing since the age of five and it was majorly through the influence of my elder who is a nurse and my Sunday school teacher in the church.

Pelleura: Your latest song is beautiful. How did you come about the concept for it?
Gladys: My song ‘Take Over Me’ was gotten in the place of prayers as I long and desire for more of God in my life and in everything I do.

Pelleura: You know our focus on this blog is about boosting the confidence of women; mostly African women. So, how can we use gospel music to achieve this?
Gladys: First, as a woman know that no one can boost your confidence for you. Boosting your confidence is a personal choice. What we do as a gospel artiste is to make anointed songs with great rhythm and lyrics available to help you as a woman connects with God who is the source of your confidence. So the question is, which kind of songs are you listening to? Which kind of books are you reading and what calibre of persons are speaking into your life regularly? All these play vital roles in boosting your confidence as a woman.

Pelleura: How many songs have you done so far, what are their titles and how can we get them?
Gladys: I have done a series of songs but only one is available online for free download. The song is titled TAKE ME OVER and it’s available for download on audiomack. Click here.

Pelleura: What are the obstacles you’ve faced as a gospel singer and how were you able to overcome them?
Gladys: Finance is a major challenge for most upcoming artistes and many have given up because of lack of funds to give expression to their talents in music. You will agree with me that without good presentation and platform, good talents have been lost in the crowd. I have been able to overcome this after many years because I simply refused to give up and that attitude of not giving up must be sustained at all times. Maintaining good relationships is vital too because God will use people to help you. So the need for a relationship cannot be overemphasized.

Pelleura: Presently, what are those achievements you’ve made and what future goals are you aiming for?
Gladys: Coming out with this single is a major achievement for me considering the feedback I have received so far from people. Aside from the fact that I am the one who owns the song, the song keeps ministering to me every day. I am trusting God to see my desire to have three more songs produced this year 2020. The big thing I am looking at is to be able to start my annual worship event any moment from now. The details will be made known to Pelleura soon. It promises to be an unusual event.

Pelleura: How have you used social media to your advantage?
Gladys: Social media is an incredible platform for those who know how to use it. I am grateful for the man I married; he has made this whole process easy for me. He handles my social media and every other thing. I have increased the numbers of my followers since I started the campaign on this my new single.

Pelleura: What’s the most important social media activity you engage in daily.
Gladys: Part of what I do on a daily basis, I share my songs, chatting with friends in respect to my song and fellowshipping in prayers with some of my close friends via a Whatsapp group called ‘DEEP’.

Pelleura: If you were to do it all over again, what would you change about your latest song?
Gladys: Absolutely nothing.

Pelleura: What advice do you have for women all over the world?
Gladys: Get connected to Jesus Christ and if you are already, grow in that connection and no matter what always be yourself and be the original you that God created.

Pelleura: Thanks, so, so much for your time, ma.
Gladys: You are welcome. It’s an honour to be part of Pelleura.
